I had to leave when Sri Sadasivam was singing ragamalika swarams for the RTP. A decent concert overall with a lot of effort put in from the singer’s side I must say. He sang some not so commonly heard Dikshitar compositions. Sri Sadasivam sang detailed alapana, neraval and kalpana swarams for the main song of the day “shrI satyanArAyaNam”. While singing the neraval, he suddenly took rishabam as shaDjam and tried the R-G-M-D-N-R usage for neraval to give a feel of madhyamavati raga. During his next turn at neraval after that, he took the gAndhAram as shaDjam and tried the G-M-D-N-R-G usage for neraval to give a feel of hindoLam raga.

After “shrI satyanArAyaNam”, he sang a 4 kaLai rAgam tAnam pallavi in nATTakurinji which started 5 aksharas away from the samam. He sang it in trikAlam and did anulOma vilOma also.

  1. Ram says:

    I think it was hindolam. Try taking the G as S in shubapantuvarali and sing G M D N R G and G R N D M G ….. you will get S G M D N S , S N D M G S. Sudha danyasi is S G M P N S, S N P M G S. Difference of a P and D.
